Srinagar, June 20, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has suspended a senior cardiologist posted at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, pending the completion of an official inquiry into his conduct, according to an order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department.
As per the official directive, Dr. Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah, Associate Professor of Cardiology presently deputed to GMC Anantnag, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.
The suspension order was issued by M. Raju (IAS), Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department, who stated that the disciplinary action has been taken pending an inquiry into the conduct of the officer.
According to the order, Dr. Shah will remain attached to the office of Government Medical College, Jammu, during the period of suspension until further directions are issued by the competent authority.
The development comes amid allegations concerning the functioning of the Cardiology Department at GMC Anantnag, which have drawn significant public attention and prompted calls for accountability and transparency within the healthcare system.
Officials said the inquiry will examine the allegations and determine whether any misconduct or procedural violations occurred. The findings of the investigation will guide any further legal or departmental action.
