SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05, 2026 ; The higher reaches of Kashmir witnessed the first snowfall of the season on Saturday, while several parts of the plains experienced brief spells of rain, with hailstorms and gusty winds reported at some locations.
The mountainous areas of Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Gumri recorded the season’s first snowfall, bringing an early winter-like chill to the higher elevations.
Parts of Srinagar city and adjoining districts received rainfall during the morning and afternoon, resulting in a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures.
Officials also reported hailstorms and strong winds in some areas of Srinagar, adding to the sudden change in weather conditions.
According to the Meteorological Department, brief showers are possible on Sunday, but the weather is expected to remain generally dry over the following few days.
The first snowfall has added a spectacular winter touch to Kashmir’s higher reaches, even as authorities and residents remain alert to changing weather conditions.
