Kulgam, May 14, 2026 : In a major success under the ongoing “War on Drugs” and Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam dismantled an interstate narcotics network and arrested an alleged lady drug kingpin along with her associate during a series of intensified anti-drug operations in the district.
According to police officials, the operation began when a naka party of Police Station Qazigund deployed at Churrat near Kund Mode intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Shakoor Khan, son of Ahdoos Khan, a resident of Madenpora Delhi presently staying at Khanabal Batpora.
During his personal search, police recovered approximately 6.9 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. Following the seizure, authorities registered FIR No. 116/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act and initiated a detailed investigation into the narcotics network.
During sustained interrogation and investigation, police established backward linkages to an alleged notorious lady drug peddler identified as Rekha, wife of Mohd Suleman, originally a resident of Bawana Delhi and presently residing at Sangam in south Kashmir.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs and after securing a legal search warrant, a police team led by SHO Police Station Qazigund Shri Manav Dhanetiya (IPS Probationary), under the supervision of Addl. SP (Highway) Qazigund Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti (JKPS), conducted a raid at the accused woman’s rented accommodation.
During the raid, police recovered approximately 8.4 grams of heroin, syringes, aluminium foil paper and suspected stolen property from a specially designed underground hideout concealed beneath a bed. Officials said the secret chamber had allegedly been created to evade police detection during routine checks and searches.
Investigators revealed that during preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to supplying narcotics to more than 200 clients and peddlers operating across various parts of the region.
Police further stated that the accused disclosed that nearly ₹25 lakh generated through illegal narcotics trade had reportedly been destroyed in a fire incident at her jhuggi last year.
During interrogation, the accused also revealed that some of her family members were allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking activities in Kashmir. Acting swiftly on the disclosures, police conducted another raid in Mir Bazar and apprehended one of her sons identified as Sadam.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify all forward and backward linkages connected to the interstate narcotics racket and to expose the wider network involved in drug trafficking operations across regions.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary reiterated that Kulgam Police remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and warned that strict legal action would continue against every individual involved in narcotics trade and substance abuse networks.
He also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug peddling and narcotics activities to protect society, particularly the youth, from the growing menace of drugs.
