KATHUA, April 14, 2026 : In a powerful call for united action, Manoj Sinha launched a people’s movement against narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, addressing a massive public rally at Sports Stadium Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.
Leading a padyatra from Sports Stadium to Government Degree College Kathua, the Lt Governor was joined by thousands of citizens, officials, students, NGOs, and civil society members, all pledging to eradicate drug abuse from the region.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha emphasized that a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir can only be achieved through collective resolve. “Drugs don’t just destroy individuals—they erode entire communities. We must unite to protect our youth and build a brighter future,” he said.
He described the campaign as a “people’s revolution” and unveiled a structured 100-day roadmap divided into six phases—focusing on awareness, community engagement, enforcement, rehabilitation, and long-term sustainability.
Highlighting the human aspect of the crisis, the Lt Governor stressed that addicts should be treated with compassion and support. “Those trapped in addiction need empathy and rehabilitation, not rejection,” he said, calling for the establishment of more accessible and humane de-addiction centres.
At the same time, he issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, announcing strict enforcement measures under the NDPS Act, including confiscation of assets, freezing of bank accounts, and revocation of documents such as passports, driving licences, Aadhaar, and arms licences.
He directed police authorities to prepare “Top Drug Peddlers” lists at all police stations and dismantle drug networks within 30 days through a focused and time-bound strategy.
The Lt Governor also called upon women’s self-help groups to form vigilance squads to monitor and report drug-related activities, emphasizing community participation as key to success.
Encouraging grassroots involvement, he urged NGOs, activists, and youth to actively contribute to awareness and feedback mechanisms, stating that a purpose-driven youth can become the strongest force against drugs.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor administered an anti-drug pledge and launched the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Anthem. The event featured cultural performances, nukkad nataks, and awareness programs aimed at mobilizing public support against narcotics.
The initiative marks a comprehensive and people-driven approach to eliminate drug abuse and safeguard the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth.
