Reasi, April 24, 2026 : In a strong and decisive move against rising drug abuse, Manoj Sinha spearheaded the ‘Drug-Free J&K Campaign’ in Reasi, calling for a united people’s movement to eradicate narcotics from society.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor described drug abuse as a “silent destroyer” weakening the very fabric of society and urged communities, institutions, and individuals to actively participate in this mission.
Over the past 12 days, the campaign has shown significant impact across Jammu and Kashmir. In the Jammu division alone:
- Narcotics worth nearly ₹3 crore have been seized
- Around ₹1 crore worth of properties linked to drug smugglers have been attached
- Multiple drug traffickers have been arrested and identified
- 187 driving licenses and 4 vehicle registrations have been cancelled
- Financial investigations launched against 48 peddlers
- 15 drug-store licenses cancelled after inspections
The administration has also taken strict action, including demolition of properties linked to smugglers and increased surveillance around schools and colleges.
A notable highlight of the campaign is the formation of 1,947 women committees, emphasizing the crucial role of women in combating drug abuse at the grassroots level. Sinha underscored that mothers and sisters are the “moral backbone” of society and key to this fight.
He further warned that drug traffickers and terrorists often operate in tandem, calling for a relentless crackdown on both networks. Authorities have intensified monitoring of smuggling routes and financial channels to dismantle these operations completely.
The Lieutenant Governor also appealed to NGOs, educators, and spiritual leaders to step forward and strengthen the movement, describing them as “frontline guardians” of societal change.
The ‘Nasha-Mukt J&K’ campaign aims to break years of silence around drug abuse and build a collective, sustained effort to eliminate the menace from its roots.
