JAMMU, October 7, 2026 : Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office as a reflection of India’s democratic tradition and the repeated electoral mandates received by him over the period.
Singh made the remarks while participating in the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha–Seva Jyoti Yatra’ in his home constituency of Udhampur.
25 Years in Public Office
Addressing reporters at the event, Singh noted that Modi had completed 25 years in public office, comprising approximately 12.5 years as Chief Minister of Gujarat and another 12.5 years as Prime Minister.
The Union minister said that such an extended period in elected public office, accompanied by repeated electoral victories, represented an important feature of India’s democratic system.
According to Singh, Modi’s political journey demonstrated the ability of voters to repeatedly provide a mandate to the same leader over an extended period.
Focus on Democratic Continuity
Singh said democratic systems are generally characterised by elections, political competition, changes in government and electoral challenges.
Against this backdrop, he described Modi’s uninterrupted political tenure at the state and national levels as a notable development.
He said the experience demonstrated what he described as the strength of India’s democratic tradition, where leaders continue to govern only after receiving electoral mandates.
“Pradhan Sevak” and Public Trust
The Union minister also referred to Modi’s description of himself as the “Pradhan Sevak”, or chief servant of the people.
Singh said Modi had built what he described as a relationship of trust with citizens through years of work, dedication and a commitment to public service.
He argued that earning sustained public confidence requires long-term effort, discipline and dedication.
Singh also said that people may not immediately understand the significance of every government decision, but that its importance could become clearer with time.
Call for a Developed India
The minister linked Modi’s political journey to the broader objective of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ — a developed India.
He called upon citizens to draw inspiration from what he described as Modi’s commitment to public service and to contribute to national development through their own efforts.
The event in Udhampur was organised under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha–Seva Jyoti Yatra, providing a platform for Singh to highlight the government’s development vision and Modi’s years in public life.
A Political Milestone
Modi’s political career began at the state level, where he served as Gujarat’s chief minister for more than a decade before becoming India’s prime minister in 2014.
His tenure as prime minister has subsequently extended across multiple electoral cycles.
Singh’s remarks focused on the political continuity represented by this 25-year period and its relationship with India’s electoral and democratic institutions.
The minister characterised the journey as one marked by dedication, commitment and public service.
Emphasis on Citizen Participation
Singh also urged citizens to play an active role in the country’s development.
Linking individual responsibility with the broader Viksit Bharat vision, he said the values of service, discipline and commitment should extend beyond political leadership and become part of people’s everyday lives.
His remarks in Udhampur placed the emphasis on the relationship between electoral mandates, public trust and continued participation in national development.
