RAJOURI, May 26, 2026 : Security forces on Tuesday intensified “Operation Sheruwali” by launching a major fire assault on suspected terrorist hideouts and deploying additional troops in the dense forests of Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district as the anti-terror operation entered its fourth day.
According to officials, the assault targeted suspected hideouts in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt of the Manjakote area amid ongoing efforts to flush out terrorists believed to be hiding in the forest terrain.
Plumes of smoke were reportedly seen rising from the forested areas following the operation, indicating that several targeted locations were successfully struck during the assault.
Security agencies are also tracking blood stains believed to have been left behind by fleeing terrorists after a hideout was destroyed during a previous assault conducted on Monday.
Backed by helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs, joint teams of the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces are carrying out extensive search operations across adjoining areas. Officials confirmed that the security cordon has been further strengthened with the induction of additional troops and reinforcements.
More operational teams have been deployed in the forests of Dori Maal in the Gambhir Moghla region to widen the search area and intensify efforts to track down and eliminate the terrorists.
The encounter initially broke out on Saturday after a joint search operation was launched following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the Singhpora-Chatroo area.
A joint team of the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had launched a large-scale cordon-and-search operation in the area based on specific intelligence about suspected terrorist movement.
Officials said preliminary reports suggest that two to three terrorists, including a commander, are believed to be hiding in the area.
Earlier, the Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that contact with terrorists was established in the general area of Gambhir Moghla during the intelligence-based joint operation conducted alongside police and CRPF personnel.
