PAKISTAN EXTENDS AIRSPACE RESTRICTIONS ON INDIAN AIRCRAFT UNTIL OCTOBER 24

ISLAMABAD, SEPTEMBER 16, 2026 ; Pakistan on Wednesday extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft for another month, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).

The latest extension will remain in force until 4:59 am on October 24, 2026, with the restriction taking effect at 10:45 am on September 16.

According to the NOTAM, Pakistani airspace will remain unavailable to Indian-registered aircraft, as well as aircraft operated, owned or leased by Indian airlines and operators. The restriction also covers military flights.

Previous Extension Was Due to Expire on September 24

The latest decision extends the existing restrictions that were scheduled to expire on September 24.

Pakistan and India imposed reciprocal airspace restrictions on each other’s aircraft following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025, amid a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations.

The continued restrictions affect the use of Pakistani airspace by Indian aviation operators and remain part of the wider set of measures introduced between the two countries following the 2025 crisis.

Restrictions Cover Karachi and Lahore Flight Regions

Pakistan’s airspace is divided into two major Flight Information Regions (FIRs) — Karachi and Lahore.

According to the latest PAA NOTAM, the restrictions apply across both the Karachi and Lahore FIRs.

The measure means Indian airlines and other aircraft covered by the notification must continue to avoid Pakistani airspace and use alternative routing where required.

Airspace Restrictions Remain in Force

The extension does not introduce a new category of restriction but continues the existing prohibition for another month.

The development comes as India-Pakistan aviation restrictions remain in place more than a year after reciprocal measures were introduced following the Pahalgam attack.

The latest NOTAM will remain effective until October 24, 2026, unless amended, withdrawn or further extended by the Pakistani authorities.
