SRINAGAR, May 10,2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday warned that modern-day terrorists and criminals are increasingly exploiting digital technology, encrypted communication networks, and data systems to operate across borders, posing serious challenges to national security.
Addressing newly recruited police personnel during an appointment letter distribution ceremony in Srinagar, the LG said the nature of terrorism and crime has drastically evolved in the digital age.
“Today, the world’s most dangerous criminals and terrorists do not always carry weapons; instead, they exploit code, data and encrypted networks to operate across borders. These are no longer threats of the distant future; they are the stark realities of the present,” Sinha said.
Around 4,000 recruits were selected through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board.
Congratulating the new recruits, Sinha described joining the Jammu and Kashmir Police as not just a profession but a commitment to a legacy of sacrifice, courage, and national service.
“Joining the Jammu and Kashmir Police is not merely a career choice but the acceptance of a legacy written in blood. I am confident that you will uphold the honour and traditions of this glorious force,” he said.
Paying tribute to the martyrs and brave personnel of J&K Police, the LG said the peace and development witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir today is the result of the force’s unwavering dedication and sacrifices in combating terrorism and maintaining law and order.
He described J&K Police as one of the country’s finest forces, recognized for excellence in counter-terrorism operations, public trust, and enforcement of the rule of law.
Highlighting the changing dimensions of internal security, Sinha stressed the urgent need to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced digital technologies into policing operations to make the force future-ready.
He cautioned that modern threats are no longer limited to physical attacks but now include:
- Cybercrime
- Narco-terrorism
- Digital fraud
- Encrypted communication networks
- Narrative and information warfare
“The battlefield has expanded beyond physical borders,” Sinha warned, urging police personnel to strengthen digital infrastructure and technological capabilities to effectively tackle emerging threats.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to eliminating terrorism in all forms, the LG called upon police recruits across all wings to serve with integrity, impartiality, and dedication while leveraging technology to safeguard national security and public safety.
