JAMMU, May 22, 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that drug trafficking and terrorism are “two sides of the same coin” in Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that investigations have revealed direct links between narcotics smuggling networks and terror organisations operating in the region.
Addressing a programme under the drug-free Jammu & Kashmir campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said evidence collected during multiple investigations indicates the involvement of the neighbouring country in promoting narcotics smuggling to finance terrorism and radicalisation activities.
Sinha stated that while some drug smugglers may accumulate wealth and construct properties through illegal trade, a significant portion of the money generated from narcotics trafficking ultimately reaches organisations involved in spreading terrorism, radicalising youth and procuring weapons.
“The larger share of this money goes towards radicalising young minds, purchasing arms and promoting terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Highlighting the administration’s priorities, Manoj Sinha stressed that protecting the younger generation from drug abuse remains one of the government’s foremost objectives.
He further stated that a deliberate conspiracy appeared to have been designed to destroy the youth of Jammu & Kashmir in an attempt to obstruct the vision of a “New Jammu & Kashmir” and a developed India.
“If the youth of Jammu & Kashmir are ruined, how will they move forward?” he remarked while calling for collective public participation in eliminating the twin threats of drugs and terrorism from the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor urged citizens, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions and civil society groups to work together to safeguard future generations and strengthen the anti-drug movement across the region.
