Kolkata, April 27, 2026 : On the final day of campaigning for the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed strong confidence in a political turnaround, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form the next government in the state.
Addressing a massive rally in Barrackpore, Modi said the “mood of Bengal” clearly संकेत (signals) a shift in power, adding that he expects to return after May 4 for the oath-taking ceremony of a BJP-led government.
Launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), he accused the party of fostering “syndicate raj,” encouraging political violence, and failing to provide a roadmap for development. He alleged that industries in the state are declining while unlawful activities are increasing under the current administration.
Highlighting Bengal’s historical importance, Modi invoked Barrackpore’s role in the 1857 uprising, suggesting that the region is once again at the center of a transformative moment.
He emphasized that West Bengal’s growth is vital for India’s overall progress and reiterated his commitment to the state’s development, security, and prosperity.
Drawing comparisons with BJP’s performance in neighboring states, he expressed optimism that Bengal would follow a similar path of political change.
As the state heads toward results on May 4, the political atmosphere remains charged, with high stakes for both the ruling TMC and the BJP.
