SRINAGAR, April 30, 2026 : Jailed Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, arrived in Srinagar on Thursday to meet his ailing father after being granted one-week interim bail by the Delhi High Court.
Rashid, the MP from Baramulla, flew into Srinagar and proceeded directly to SMHS Hospital to visit his father, officials said.
⚖️ Court’s Conditional Relief
The Delhi High Court granted interim bail with strict conditions:
- Rashid can only visit the hospital or stay at home
- Two plainclothes police personnel will accompany him at all times
- No undue visitors allowed—only immediate family members permitted
- He is not required to bear security expenses
The relief came after the court heard his appeal against a trial court order that had earlier denied interim bail.

- Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019
- Arrested by the National Investigation Agency in a 2017 terror-funding case
- Charges include criminal conspiracy, waging war, sedition, and offences under UAPA

Despite being in custody, Rashid won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, defeating prominent leaders including Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone.
The interim bail allows him a brief humanitarian reprieve while the legal proceedings against him continue.
