LEH, April 30, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Ladakh to attend the first-ever international exposition of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha in India, marking a rare and spiritually significant occasion.
He was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport by senior officials, including the Lieutenant Governor.
🕊️ On the Occasion of Buddha Purnima
During his visit, Shah will:
- Pay homage to the relics on Buddha Purnima
- Participate in religious and cultural events
- Describe the occasion as a moment of “profound good fortune”
🪷 Sacred Piprahwa Relics Reach Leh
The revered relics linked to Gautama Buddha:
- Brought to Leh via special Indian Air Force aircraft
- Received with massive Admiration as locals lined roads for darshan
- Being displayed in India for the first time outside their place of preservation
These relics were originally discovered at Piprahwa in present-day Uttar Pradesh near the Nepal border and have been exhibited globally in countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Myanmar.
🌍 Global & Historical Significance
The relics gained renewed importance after repatriation of associated artifacts in 2025, ending over a century of colonial possession. Their exposition in Ladakh marks a major spiritual and cultural milestone.
