SRINAGAR, June 6, 2026 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday urged Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to expedite the ongoing construction work at AIIMS Awantipora, emphasizing the urgent need for advanced healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Mufti said she spoke directly with the Union Health Minister and requested him to ensure that the prestigious healthcare project is completed without any further delays.
Sharing the details in a post on X, she said:
“Spoke with Union Health Minister JP Nadda ji & requested him to expedite the ongoing work at AIIMS Awantipora so that it doesn’t get delayed any further. He was kind enough to assure me about its completion well on time.”
According to Mehbooba Mufti, the Union Minister assured her that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and that efforts are being made to ensure timely completion of the institution.
Highlighting the importance of the project, the PDP chief acknowledged the efforts of the teams working on-site and appreciated their dedication toward completing the facility.
“Undoubtedly, the team assigned here is toiling day and night, but given how healthcare is crumbling across Jammu and Kashmir, it is imperative that AIIMS Awantipora becomes operational soon,” she stated.
She said the premier medical institute would significantly strengthen healthcare services in the Valley and provide much-needed relief to patients who currently face challenges in accessing specialized medical treatment.
“AIIMS Awantipora will provide quality healthcare services and greatly improve access to advanced medical facilities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mufti added.
The AIIMS Awantipora project is considered one of the most important healthcare infrastructure initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to enhance tertiary healthcare services, medical education and research facilities in the region upon completion.
The project is anticipated to reduce the burden on existing hospitals and minimize the need for patients to travel outside Jammu and Kashmir for specialized treatment.
Mufti’s intervention comes amid growing public expectations regarding the early completion and operationalisation of the institute, which is expected to play a transformative role in strengthening the healthcare sector across the Union Territory.
