Srinagar, June 17, 2026 : Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad on Wednesday reaffirmed his party’s demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that peaceful protest is a democratic right and announcing that the scheduled protest programme will be held as planned.
Addressing the issue, Mian Altaf said that the restoration of statehood remains a legitimate and constitutional aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and emphasized that democratic means of protest are essential for expressing public sentiment and seeking the fulfillment of commitments made to the people.
“Protest to press for the restoration of statehood is our right and it will be held as per the schedule,” Mian Altaf said.
The Member of Parliament maintained that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have consistently voiced their demand for the restoration of statehood and urged the Central Government to fulfill its commitment without further delay.
He stressed that the issue is closely linked to the democratic aspirations of the people and holds significant importance for the political and administrative future of the Union Territory.
According to Mian Altaf, peaceful demonstrations and public participation in democratic processes are fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution and provide a legitimate platform for citizens to express their concerns and expectations.
The MP reiterated that restoring statehood remains a key demand of the people and called for timely action to address the long-pending issue.
