JAMMU, June 13, 2026 : In a significant administrative development, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has empanelled six senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre for appointment to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
The empanelment includes three officers belonging to the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir segment of the AGMUT cadre, marking an important milestone for officers from the Union Territory who have served in various key policing and administrative roles over the years.
The six IPS officers cleared for empanelment to the DGP rank are:
- Dr. Shiv Darshan Singh Jamwal
- Rajesh Kumar
- Satish Shriramaji Khandare
- Tsewang Namgyal Kalon
- David Lalrinsanga
- Rajesh Khandare
Among the empanelled officers, Dr. Shiv Darshan Singh Jamwal, Rajesh Kumar, and Tsewang Namgyal Kalon belong to the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir segment of the AGMUT cadre.
According to official sources, the empanelment enables these officers to be considered for appointment to Director General-level positions in various Union Territories, police organisations, and central institutions falling under the AGMUT cadre framework.
The empanelment process is carried out after a detailed assessment of officers’ service records, professional achievements, leadership capabilities, and overall experience in law enforcement and public administration.
Officials said the decision follows the recommendations of the competent authority and recognizes the officers’ distinguished careers, extensive operational experience, and contributions to policing and governance.
The development is particularly noteworthy for the Jammu and Kashmir segment, as several of the empanelled officers have held important assignments within the Union Territory and have also served in senior positions on Central deputation, gaining valuable experience in national security, law enforcement, intelligence, and public administration.
The rank of Director General of Police represents one of the highest positions in the Indian policing hierarchy and is entrusted with overseeing major police organisations, security establishments, and law enforcement agencies.
The empanelment is expected to open new leadership opportunities for the officers concerned and strengthen the pool of experienced senior police officers available for critical assignments across the country.
