SRINAGAR, June 13, 2026 : The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has directed all Government and Private Recognised Schools across the Kashmir Valley not to conduct any examinations during the observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, ensuring that students and educational institutions can participate in and respect the religious observances associated with the sacred period.
According to an official order issued by the Director, School Education Kashmir, all schools have been instructed to refrain from conducting in-house examinations, internal assessments, and term examinations for all classes from June 23 to June 27, 2026.
The directive has been issued in view of the approaching month of Muharram-ul-Haram, a period of deep religious significance observed by the Muslim community, particularly marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala.
The order states:
“It is impressed upon all Government/Private Recognised Schools not to conduct any in-house examinations/internal assessment/term examination for all classes w.e.f. 23rd June to 27th June 2026.”
The Directorate has made it clear that the instructions are mandatory for all educational institutions operating under its jurisdiction and are aimed at avoiding any inconvenience to students, teachers, and parents during the observance period.
Officials have also cautioned school administrations against violating the directive, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against institutions found disregarding the order.
The notification further warns that any deviation from or non-compliance with the directions shall invite disciplinary action under the relevant rules and regulations.
The decision is expected to provide relief to students and families observing Muharram and will require schools to reschedule any planned assessments falling within the specified dates.
Educational authorities have advised school managements to make necessary adjustments to their academic calendars while ensuring that the overall teaching and evaluation schedule remains unaffected.
The order applies uniformly to all Government-run and Private Recognised Schools across Kashmir and comes as part of the administration’s efforts to facilitate smooth observance of important religious events while maintaining academic discipline.
