Jammu, April 24, 2026 : Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have taken strict action against two government employees in separate cases of alleged negligence, reinforcing a zero-tolerance stance on dereliction of duty.
In Samba district, Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Soodan ordered the suspension of revenue official Pankaj Singh Jamwal, who was serving as a girdawar. The action followed his failure to complete the digitisation of land records within the stipulated timeframe despite repeated instructions.
An official report highlighted that no jamabandis (land ownership records) were digitised in the Smailpur area between April 8 and April 15, pointing to serious lapses in duty. The official has been attached to the tehsildar office in Samba, while the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Vijaypur has been tasked with completing an inquiry within 15 days.
In a separate case in Doda, forest guard Mushtaq Ahmed has been suspended after a vehicle carrying illegal deodar timber was intercepted in the Bhadarwah area.
A joint team of the Forest Protection Force and local forest staff seized:
- A vehicle transporting 20 deodar timber planks
- A mechanical cutter, allegedly linked to illegal logging
Notably, the forest guard was found moving along the same route in his personal vehicle during the operation, raising serious suspicion of involvement or negligence.
He has been attached to the Divisional Forest Office in Bhadarwah pending further investigation.
These actions underscore the administration’s commitment to enforcing accountability and curbing both administrative negligence and environmental violations.
